The book that I have chosen for this month is ‘Superfood for Superchildren’ by Professor Tim Noakes, Jonno Proudfoot and Bridget Surtees.
I really like how this book provides practical choices for feeding our children healthily. As we approach the summer holidays, and are thinking about the new academic year and how we can better feed out children at various stages in in life, this book comes in very handy.
It is a large A4 sized book with beautiful illustrations and colours, which makes it very appealing to both parents and children. My children will search recipes and find favourite things to cook and eat together. The book gives many ideas for packed lunches, plus easy evening meals, making life as a parent that little bit simpler.
Superfood for Superchildren has an underlying healthy approach to eating, where the general approach is to reduce carbohydrate content in foods. The book has a very nice division of different age groups and details the nutrition requirements at those ages, to help with stages of maturation.
Authored by Professor Tim Noakes, Jonno Proudfoot and Bridget Surtees, the advice given is based on both scientific evaluation and the authors’ personal experiences. Tim and Jonno previously authored ‘The Real Meal Revolution 1 and 2’. These are based on lowering carbohydrates in the diet with an aim to help with the population increase in metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
My recommendation would be to give the recipes a go, and if family and friends are about to have a baby this would be my favoured baby shower gift!
